With its immense scale, Beijing Daxing Airport will bring forth immense economic development of subsequent aviation-led growths around the airport. However, there are three very different categories of airport community developments. Different primarily in their development about airport development, the airport passenger and cargo capacities, the airport’s distance from major cities, and regional population and development growth rates. The first category of airport development is called the Aero-city and the second category is the Aerotropolis. There is a third type of self-termed sub-category called the Aero-adapted. It is important to note that while there are three distinct categories most airport developments are a composite of all three, stronger in particular areas depending primarily on regional conditions.

For this project, we studied Beijing Daxing Airport aviation-led community categories, which will depend on the conditions surrounding them. Firstly we conclude that it has an enormous 130 million annual passenger and 3.2 million tonnes annual cargo capacity. Secondly, it is located relatively far from any major city center, 47 km from Beijing. Thirdly it is intended for continual growth. These facts certainly conclude that the Beijing New Airport is prime for its own Aero-city development.

However, several other factors indicate that it is a candidate for Aerotropolis development. The first indication is that the Airport is intended to serve several major cities including Tianjin and Baoding which reside 81km and 104km from the airport site. Secondly, the new airport is intended to stimulate the development of surrounding communities such as Gu’an, Langfang, Zhuozhou, and Lixianzhen, effectively categorizing them as Aero-adaptive developments. Thirdly Beijing’s population and high-tech development, as well as the rest of China, is increasing at an exponential rate. Fourthly, it is located within the Beijing, Tianjin, and Baoding triangle of development, intercity high-speed rail, and superhighway infrastructure allowing it to connect to any of 20 cities within the area.
