The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) is the largest public university in the Dallas metro area with more than 750 acres of overall campus land area. The College of Engineering and Computer Science is one of the most highly ranked schools of the university.
This project was for the addition of an existing building that consists of teaching and research labs, classrooms, and faculty offices. The design of the addition pays tribute to the existing building, maintains building setback lines, keeps the original planning module, and chooses an architectural style that complements and reinforces the old building.

The addition aligns the circulation corridors and creates an enclosed courtyard with connecting arcades and glass bridges between the old and the new. The addition forms a new prominent southwest entry that faces the intersection of the campus’ main east-west road Drive A. The curved entry hallway provides a smooth transition between the two north-south corridors and also works as the waiting and discharging space for the large lecture halls on the first floor.

This addition not only provides the needed additional spaces for the immensely popular college but also helps to complete the campus spatial fabric for this fast-growing urban university.
