A Tour of the Square

Gather the square, accentuate the square, and share the square’s splendor. The project is located at the southwest corner of Xinhua Plaza, neighboring large-scale architectural volumes built in various periods. There is a clear gap in the city skyline of Xinhua Square at the southwest corner. Our design fills this gap with a rigorous “wide façade”. The façade of the building is characterized by the atmosphere, classic, timelessness, and durability, with the richly variegated white stone as the main tone, golden aluminum as the line, and charming light and shadow, which plays a role of inheritance, echoing and setting off with the many architectural styles. To solve the problems of parking, transportation, and pedestrian flow, our design suggests connecting with the public space on the underground level of the square.

A Business Card of Healthy Living

The project takes healthy living as the main theme and makes efforts in physical fitness, a convenient life, support business, and upgrade the quality of life. The proposal cleverly encloses an eight-story gymnasium with a total area of 12,000 square meters in the core, including a swimming pool, basketball court, squash court, and rock-climbing gym. It also contains a jogging track and ramp with a total length of about 1.5 kilometers, which connects the four gyms, two sky gardens, and a commercial shared atrium. When it comes to supporting businesses, this proposal focuses on specialty food and beverage, provides space for convenient services, provides space for displaying and releasing new products, creates scenic performances and immersive shopping environments, and weaves the flow of people from Xinhua Plaza into the supporting businesses of the project; and, with the striking architectural indoor space design, it will create a spatial landmark that will become a brand-new business card for healthy living in Hohhot.

Return to Nature

The program creatively arranges two sky gardens on the roofs of the 5th and 13th floors in an aerial dislocation and shapes a return to nature that can resist the cold winter of Hohhot, avoid the penetrating wind, and reduce the western sunshine through the openings of the building’s façade volume. The program is based on the Japanese-style dry garden as the vocabulary, reducing maintenance costs, eliminating water leakage, inviting sunlight and oxygen, framing starlight and moonlight, and creating a return to nature for the project’s inner courtyard in the sky.

Flexible Layout

Adapting to the general trend of increasing integration of home office, remote control office, office and living, entertainment, and living, etc., with increasingly blurred boundaries after the COVID pandemic, this project adopts a modular approach to the layout and flexibly arranges the space for living, office, entertainment, and shops, which maximizes the flexibility of layout and the market’s ability to adapt to the changing situation.
