This data center complex is located on the outskirts of Xi-an inside the special economic zone near the XIY International Airport. It sits on a 400-meter by 400-meter square-shaped site at an intersection. The program includes a data center, a call center, an R&D center, and offices totaling about 46,500 square meters.

Our competition-winning design scheme places the large data center in the backend of the site while aligning the call center and R&D at the front. A landscaped courtyard is formed in between the buildings. The administrative functionality along with corporate reception is housed in a smaller building and pushed back halfway into the courtyard, to form an entry plaza. The two larger buildings of R&D and call center are connected at the roofline, forming a monumental gateway reminiscent of Xi-an ancient gateway tower. The street corner also prompted us to slice away a piece of R&D building mass, making it a more integral whole.

The architectural facade is intricately modern with the data center being more solid and others more open. Vertical sunscreen louvers and deep roof overhangs are both energy-saving measures and expressions of character in architectural style. Its data center is secured as an independent building and will be constructed as a tier-3+ facility as per Uptime Institute standards.
